How to create a more sustainable office space

Yet it is just as important to us to ensure that people are working in a place that is sustainable; eco-friendly solutions are a focus in our previous and new designs, and we aim to meet sustainability goals and honour our corporate social responsibility.

These are the actions we have taken as we strive towards a more sustainable workspace:

LED Lighting

By using modern LED lighting, we have not had to compromise on the versatile design of our space, while ensuring that our illumination is energy efficient and eco-friendly. LEDs are much more energy efficient than traditional halogen or fluorescent bulbs - they last up to 5x longer and use 80% less energy to produce the same level of light. Rather than lasting around two years, LED bulbs can typically last for around 15-20 years due to their durability.

These low running costs and long lifespan contribute to a positive impact on the environment and ensure reduced carbon emissions.

PIR Sensors

PIR, or passive infrared sensors, are innovative motion sensor lighting which turns on and off automatically when it detects someone’s presence, either through motion or infrared from body temperature. The addition of PIR in lighting reduces energy usage by dimming to a lower output or turning off when there is no one occupying the space, saving bright lighting from being constantly switched on when it is not needed. This has a huge impact on improving energy efficiency, reducing energy costs, and preventing light pollution into the surrounding environment from exterior lighting.

Recycling

We encourage recycling by providing clearly labelled recycling bins throughout the workspace for different types of materials such as paper, plastic and glass. We also promote digital documents and communication to reduce paper usage, printing only when absolutely necessary.

We discourage single-use cups and containers by providing free hot drinks onsite - one of our businesses, Contact Coffee Co, has developed fully recyclable aluminium Nespresso pods that are both environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Transport links

We are located in a prime position near to many public transport links, including bus routes from the nearby Designer Outlet, and Cannock Railway Station has trains to Lichfield, Rugeley, and Birmingham. We are also located next to the beautiful Mill Green and Hawks Green Valley Local Nature Reserve, which encourages people to get out of the office and walk.

This provides easy access for people who want to visit Offiss without driving, either via public transport, cycling, or walking. Some of our co workers also carpool and share transport to reduce their personal carbon footprints while building connections!
